EDB Yoga Team

The source of YOGA comes from the YOGA SUTRA of Sage Patanjali many centuries ago.

There are many forms of Yoga:

  • Raja Yoga
  • Bhakti Yoga
  • Jnana Yoga
  • Japa Yoga and
  • Hatha Yoga

The Yoga that is most practiced is Hatha Yoga which consists of Asanas (postures), Prayanama (breath control) and relaxation. We start with standing postures or warming up. We then proceed with Headstand and Shoulderstand which are very good for blood circulation in the brain. These two asanas are recommended for headache, thyroid glands and varicose veins.
Chakrasana (bridge), Bhujangasana (cobra) and Dhanurasana (bow) are back postures for flexibility thus preventing back pain. Counter postures like Forward Bending should be done after each back asana.
Spinal Twist should always form part of yoga practice.
Another important aspect of Hatha Yoga is deep breathing. We should always breathe from the belly up to the collar- bone. Exhalation starts from the belly so as to empty and let go completely. This technique of breathing helps to get rid of tension and hence enhances mind relaxation.
Alternate breathing or Prayanama is about breath control and leads to relaxation.
As Prevention is better than cure, the regular practice of Yoga helps us to achieve this endeavor.

Please join the yoga team every Tuesday from 5pm to 6pm.
